First, yesterday, Eri Yoshida became the first female in Japan to play professional baseball. She was drafted to the Kobe 9 Cruise. She was one of 33 picked in the draft.
Today, Ann E. Dunwoody became the first female to become a 4 star general in the army. She has been serving this country for 33 years.
Also in the news today, Admirals and generals are calling for an end to the "don't ask don't tell" policy. More than 100 retired admirals and generals want to repeal this and let gays serve openly in the miliary.
"As is the case with Great Britain, Israel, and other nations that allow gays and lesbians to serve openly, our service members are professionals who are able to work together effectively despite differences in race, gender, religion, and sexuality," the officers wrote.
Good call. Seems like people are agreeing with this repeal. Out of about 17,000 votes, 77% agree, 20% do not.
